Parents giving birth at the Sangre Grande Hospital Campus can now register their babies and receive their birth certificates before leaving the hospital.
The Bedside Birth Registration Service was launched on October 14, allowing parents to complete the process at the hospital rather than having to make a separate trip to register their newborns.
According to a post by the Eastern Regional Health Authority (ERHA), the launch was led by Land and Legal Affairs Minister Saddam Hosein, who is also a Minister in the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries.
The ERHA said the launch marked a milestone for the hospital, with the first bedside birth registration and printing of an electronic birth certificate successfully completed at the campus.
Also attending were Minister in the Ministry of Health Dr Rishad Seecheran, Toco/Sangre Grande MP Wayne Sturge, Cumuto/Manzanilla MP Shivanna Sam, Registrar General Karen Bridgewater, ERHA chairman Dr Sandeep Maharaj and chief executive officer Angelina Rampersad Pierre, along with ERHA staff and invited guests.
