Muffles College says it has placed a staff member on administrative leave after receiving an allegation of misconduct involving a minor female student.
In a press release, the school said its administration received the allegation on Tuesday, October 6, 2026. It said it regards the allegation as extremely serious and has started an investigation. The staff member allegedly involved will remain on leave until the investigation is complete.
The release comes after News 5 made several attempts to speak with school officials today.
News 5 has seen text messages that are sexual in nature, which appear to be between the female student and a male teacher.
The school’s release does not say what the alleged misconduct was and does not confirm that messages are part of its investigation. “We are deeply concerned by the nature of this allegation and acknowledge the distress that this matter has caused to our students, faculty, staff, parents and the wider community.”
Muffles College said it is aware of parallel investigations by the Belize Police Department and the Department of Social Services and will cooperate fully with them.
The school said due process requires it to follow established legal procedures that seek fairness to all parties. It said its administrators, faculty and staff must follow the Muffles College Faculty Handbook, the GAMAS Code of Conduct and Ethics for Educators/Adults at Grant-Aided Schools of Belize, and the legislation that governs the education sector. They are also expected to uphold the ethical standards of the Roman Catholic Church and the Sisters of Mercy and to refrain from immoral and improper conduct, the release said.
“Muffles College will continue to treat this matter with the seriousness it warrants and remains steadfast in its responsibility to protect the welfare of its students.”
