Around 40,000 social security numbers of citizens residing in Greenlandic municipalities have “potentially” been leaked. The Bank of Greenland has issued a call to its customers to be extra careful when handing out passwords in order to counter fraud attempts.
– Pay extra attention on attempted fraud.
This is what an appeal from the Bank of Greenland to customers reads, after Danish authorities have informed the bank that unauthorized persons have gained access to CPR information for a large part of the Danish and Greenlandic population.
The Ministry of Digitization has informed Sermitsiaq that the access also applies to CPR information on citizens in Greenland.
– Potentially, it concerns approx. 40,000 people who reside in a Greenlandic municipality. Similar to citizens in Denmark, we encourage citizens in Greenland to be extra attentive in the coming time, the digitization ministry informs.
