The 10-member team competed at the 14th Annual 2026 Ocean Spray Short Course Nationals, held October 10 and 11 in Rodney Bay, Saint Lucia, alongside six other clubs and approximately 205 swimmers, according to a press release from the club.
Kerniya Seaman won bronze in the 400-metre freestyle, while Khalil Seaman secured bronze in the 100-metre breaststroke and Zurie Charles earned bronze in the 200-metre freestyle.
Despite fielding a smaller team than several competitors, including clubs with more than 20 swimmers, Emerald Aquatics said its athletes demonstrated determination and resilience while competing against experienced regional swimmers.
Head Coach Daley described the experience as an important milestone, noting that many of the club’s athletes were competing at this level for the first time.
“Returning home with three bronze medals is a commendable achievement,” she said, adding that the swimmers’ courage, determination and willingness to embrace new challenges were equally important.
The competition also provided valuable exposure, allowing the young athletes to interact with swimmers from other clubs and gain a better understanding of the standards required at regional meets.
The club noted that limited access to adequate training facilities and opportunities in Dominica presents challenges for developing swimmers. Nevertheless, it said the experience had strengthened its confidence in the athletes’ potential.
Emerald Aquatics expressed gratitude to its coaches for their commitment and guidance, as well as sponsors Timbos Suites and Benjos Seamoss for helping make the trip possible.
The club also acknowledged the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs and Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit for their support, particularly the Prime Minister’s contribution towards facilitating training opportunities ahead of the competition.
Team Manager Nelisha Chaseau said the club’s ambitions extend beyond its first medal haul.
“We may be a small club, but we have big dreams and even greater determination,” she said, adding that the experience reinforced the club’s belief in what its swimmers can achieve with hard work and support.
Emerald Aquatics plans to participate in additional competitions throughout the Caribbean to give its athletes more exposure and experience.
The club said its broader mission is to build confidence, discipline, and lasting memories while helping young swimmers recognise their potential, regardless of the challenges they face.
