Other villagers were also awake and heading for higher ground, some They were surprised in their hotels while they were sleeping,” Sherap, a resident of the town, told the local press.
Preliminary information suggests that an avalanche of Ice could have dumped snow, mud and other debris into the river, triggering the flood. According to a statement from the Nepal Hydrology Research Center, a landslide temporarily plugged a tributary of the river in Tumje (Chumanubri) and abruptly released a large mass of mud and water when the natural dam broke.
A hydrologist from the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, Binod Parajuli, told EFE that no rain was recorded in the headwaters of the affected river. “The flood cannot be attributed to rainfall based on the available records,” Parajuli explained.
