Havana/The renowned Cuban artist Alfredo Sosabravo celebrates his 96 years with the personal exhibition love in the citywhich will be inaugurated on Friday, October 16, at 10:30 am, at the Corral Falso 259 cultural space, in Guanabacoa. The exhibition, curated by Beatriz Hernández Jiménez, brings together a selection of drawings recently made by the creator and constitutes a tribute to his extensive career within the contemporary visual arts of the Island.
The title of the exhibition comes from one of the pieces that make up the set and proposes a poetic approach to the everyday universe that has fueled Sosabravo’s imagination for decades. The works allow us to discover the creative vitality of an artist who, at an exceptional age, continues to explore the expressive possibilities of drawing, color and shapes.
Born in Sagua la Grande, Villa Clara, on October 25, 1930, Alfredo Sosabravo is one of the most recognized figures in Cuban plastic arts. His production covers painting, drawing, engraving, ceramics and other artistic manifestations. Awarded the National Prize for Plastic Arts in 1997, he has developed a visual language characterized by chromatic exuberance, formal experimentation and the presence of fantastic figures, faces and compositions of great symbolic richness.
The exhibition will take place at Corral Falso 259, a cultural project promoted by the artist Tomás Núñez, who maintains a long friendship and working ties with Sosabravo. The meeting will bring together artists, researchers, students and admirers of his work in a day dedicated to celebrating his legacy.
As part of the inauguration, the book will also be presented SOSABRAVO. Color space, dedicated to his ceramic production, one of the most significant aspects of his career. The presentation will be led by Beatriz Hernández Jiménez and Surisday Reyes Martínez, director of the National Museum of Contemporary Cuban Ceramics.
The event thus offers a double opportunity to get closer to Sosabravo’s creative universe: through his most recent drawings and a publication that delves into his contribution to Cuban artistic ceramics. The inauguration will take place nine days before the artist officially turns 96 years old.
