Santa Fe/The Cuban artist Mabel Poblet Pujol will inaugurate the personal exhibition on Saturday, October 17 Fragments of Memory (Fragments of memory), in the Artes de Cuba gallery, in Santa Fe, New Mexico. The exhibition brings together works made with various mixed techniques and proposes a reflection on identity, human mobility, uprooting and the sense of belonging, recurring themes in the creator’s career.
Born in Cienfuegos in 1986, Poblet lives and works between Cuba and Madrid. She graduated from the San Alejandro National Academy of Fine Arts in 2007 and from the Higher Institute of Art (ISA) in 2012. She also participated in the workshops of the Art of Conduct Chair, directed by Tania Bruguera, an experience linked to artistic experimentation and the relationships between art and society.
His production encompasses photography, installations, kinetic works and mixed techniques. One of the characteristics of his visual language is the fragmentation of photographic images, which he transforms through procedures such as origami to build compositions with multiple perspectives. Childhood memories, self-portraits, travel experiences and images of the sea constitute some of the sources of inspiration for his work.
In his works, memory does not appear as a linear story, but as a succession of fragments that the viewer must reconstruct. The ocean, particularly present in his production, functions as a metaphor for geographical separations, displacements and emotional ties that persist beyond borders.
The artist participated in the Cuban Pavilion at the 57th Venice Biennale in 2017, and has presented her work in institutions and galleries in Europe, Asia and America. Among his previous exhibitions is another entitled Fragments of Memoryheld in 2021 at the Galerie Isabelle Lesmeister, in Regensburg, Germany, where she showed pieces belonging to different series of her production.
The Santa Fe exhibition will be held at Artes de Cuba Gallery, a space specialized in contemporary Cuban art that promotes the work of creators of different generations, both residents of the Island and established abroad. The gallery has featured works by artists such as Manuel Mendive, Flavio Garciandía, Abel Barroso and Santiago Olazábal.
