He University Cinema of Experimental University Film Groupwith the support of Cultural Center of Spain Casa del Soldadopresents during this month of October the cycle ‘The must-sees of Spanish cinema’.
The special programming will take place during the first week of October and will include fundamental titles of Spanish cinematography.
The series will start on Monday, October 5, at 7:00 pm, with the screening of ‘Viridiana’a one hour and 30 minute drama directed by Luis Buñuel. The story follows an old Spanish nobleman who has lived retired on his estate since the death of his wife and receives a visit from his niece Viridiana, a convent novice who bears a great resemblance to his late wife.
On Tuesday the 6th, within the framework of the celebration of the Spanish Cinema Daythe documentary will be shown ‘Disenchantment’directed by Jaime Chavarriwith a duration of one hour and 37 minutes. The film will have three screenings, at 3:00 pm, 5:00 pm and 7:00 pm This film focuses its gaze on the poet Leopoldo Panero and offers the testimony of his widow and his children about his death and the family problems they faced.
On Wednesday the 7th, at 3:00 pm, 5:00 pm and 7:00 pm, there will be a screening ‘The holy innocents’a one hour and 47 minute drama directed by Mario Camus. The film is set in Franco’s Spain during the 1960s and portrays a family of peasants who live miserably in an Extremaduran farmhouse under the rule of a landowner.
Thursday the 8th will be dedicated to ‘The spirit of the hive’drama directed by Victor Ericewith a duration of one hour and 38 minutes. The screenings will be at 3:00 pm, 5:00 pm and 7:00 pm Set in 1940, the film shows how a sensitive seven-year-old girl, traumatized after watching the film ‘Frankenstein’delves into his own fantasy world.
Finally, on Friday the 9th the exhibition will close with the suspense film ‘Death of a cyclist’directed by Juan Antonio Bardemwith a duration of one hour and 28 minutes. Screenings will be at 3:00 pm, 5:00 pm and 7:00 pm
The play addresses the dilemma of a university professor and his lover, a married woman belonging to the gentry, who accidentally run over a cyclist and decide to hide the tragic accident for fear that their adultery will be discovered.
