The last few years have consolidated around the world a political shift towardsfar righta trend about which there is considerable concern among parliamentary groups alike. The differences appear, however, when it comes to determining to what extent this movement has also taken root in the principality and, above all, if it already has a direct translation in institutional policy.
The P.S is the one who has it more clearly. The social democrats they consider that the extreme right is already present in the country, not only in the social sphere, but also within the institutions. The party president, Peter Baronpoints out directly Andorra Go aheadaffirming that “there is a parliamentary group and several extra-parliamentary political forces that have a far-right discourse, a populist discourse”, he affirms. From the ideology of these groups, baron he considers it particularly worrying that some of his approaches are imported from foreign political realities and transferred to the Andorran case, even though, in his opinion, they do not always fit with the reality of the country. As an example, he points to the discourses surrounding an alleged uncontrolled migration.
“When you deviate a little from the established discourse, everyone calls you extreme right”
For the social democratic leader, the response to this phenomenon does not only correspond to the political class, but also calls upon the public. baron avoids, however, defending a sanitary cordon against these formations because he says he is not clear “whether it is counterproductive or not“, especially taking into account the electoral evolution of some parties in this space in other countries. On the other hand, he does claim that voters “be informed” before the next elections. “What we have to show is that the far-right projects are not projects; in the end they are empty words”, he maintains.
“There is a parliamentary group that has a far-right speech”
This reading is not shared by the rest of the parliamentary arch, let alone by Andorra Go ahead. Carine Montaner rejects that it can be placed within this label and believes that “when you go a little outside the established discourse you are already labeled as extreme right”. According to the leader ofAEthe axes that defend the training – theDNA of Andorranness, controlled immigration and the national priority in issues such as housing – respond to the desire that people who arrive in the country do so to contribute and that priority be given to people already rooted in Andorra within public programs. Highlander claims the legitimacy of these approaches and considers that time has strengthened some of the positions that the party defended, such as when it was published that one out of every two police inspections have detected an illegal worker. “When you label someone an extremist, but then they end up seeing that we were right, maybe it’s that we weren’t so extremist”, he points out. For this reason, he bets on “putting aside the labels” and continuing to develop the political project ofAndorra Go ahead.
“AE defends Andorranness, like us, but they are not extreme right”
concord i Democrats they adopt a position further removed from ideological classifications. The president of the parliamentary group of yes, Jordi Jordanacknowledges that this political tendency has grown in recent years, but does not consider that, for now, it has moved to institutional politics. “I don’t see that we have it clearly at home“, he affirms. Jordan it does identify elements of concern in the social field. Episodes like those related to Ceutahe points out, can generate a climate of discontent that ends up fueling more extreme discourses. Asked directly by Andorra Go aheadrefuses to equate the formation with the extreme right: “They defend Andorra, as we do, but they cannot be equated with the extreme right”.
“The policy based on targeting people who have migrated is something that does not correspond”
Cerni Escaléeven more equidistant, separates himself personally from the postulates of the extreme right and makes it clear that “targeting people who have migrated is something that does not correspond“. However, he avoids placing specific parties in this category and considers that it will be “a matter for the voters to judge”. For the leader of concordit turns out more “fertile” talk about political projects rather than labels.
