He Ministry of Health (Minsa) He reminded men of the importance of maintaining their medical check-ups and clarified that a high Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) result does not necessarily mean the presence of cancer.
Alex González, advisor to the Higher Office of the Minsa, explained that conditions such as benign prostatic hyperplasia and prostatitis can also raise PSA levels.
Therefore, an altered result must be evaluated by a health professional, taking into account the patient’s age, history, and symptoms.
González pointed out that, if necessary, the doctor can order additional evaluations, such as a rectal examination or a prostate biopsy, to confirm or rule out a disease.
The Minsa highlighted that prostate health evaluations are available throughout the year in the country’s public health facilities and reiterated the call to carry out preventive checks and consult in case of any alteration.
