PARAMARIBO — With the shipment of 55.45 tons of rice to Venezuela, Suriname underlines its solidarity with the Venezuelan people, according to Ambassador Georgette García Elías. The second humanitarian aid shipment is intended to support the affected population and the recovery after the two earthquakes that hit the country on June 24, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Trade and Cooperation (BIS) wrote in a press release.
The rice, shipped in two containers of twenty feet each, was handed over to Venezuela at the port of La Guaira on Thursday. The first shipment arrived by plane in August. “With this additional contribution, Suriname is further fulfilling its commitment to the affected population,” BIS said. “The donation supports the recovery and reconstruction of the country and reflects the close ties of friendship between Suriname and Venezuela.”
The shipment was handed over by García Elías to Gustavo Díaz Aular (general director of the Office of the Deputy Minister for the Caribbean at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs) and Admiral José Rafael Hernández Abchi.
