The analysis occurs at a time when Donald Trump’s Administration is pushing to unlock Venezuela’s energy reserves. The country has vast oil reserves and also large gas deposits, but it does not export this fuel.
Last month, Venezuela and the United States announced alliances with oil majors, including Chevron, GE Vernova and Eni, in order to boost crude production.
For its part, Eni and Repsol signed an agreement with Caracas to begin exporting gas at the end of 2031. The pact seeks to reactivate a long-stalled project to expand the production of Perla, located in the Gulf of Venezuela.
As reported by Bloomberg earlier this year, the goal is to double the field’s production and export the fuel as liquefied natural gas from a floating terminal.
