Education Minister Octavia Alfred credited teachers with building the nation’s foundation and outlined measures the government has taken to continue engaging the sector.
Delivering her remarks on Teachers’ Day, Friday, October 2, Alfred added that the Ministry of Education celebrates this occasion every day.
“Over the past 2 years, almost 400 teachers received appointments,” she said during a statement. “The process is ongoing, and 5 have received appointments for this new school year.”
According to her, the government has provided teachers with personal protective equipment and first aid kits.
Furthermore, she stated that the government has continued to provide an allowance of $250 to teachers.
“We continue to review the early childhood sector to create established positions for those educators,” Alfred noted.
She continued, “Work on the reclassification for primary schools is nearing completion.”
Alfred added that the government will continue to engage teachers regularly, “because no education policy can succeed without the teacher’s voice.”
“We cannot speak of education transformation without investing in the transformers, you, our teachers,” she asserted.
She described teaching as the most nation-building job one can ever engage in, and on behalf of the government of Dominica, she offered profound gratitude to every teacher.
Alfred told teachers to continue to stand strong.
“Even if the foundation seems hidden, know that you are building up the nation,” she emphasized.
“To every teacher who wakes early, stays late, and gives from the heart, thank you,” Alfred said. “Thank you for [your] patience, your passion, and for never giving up on our children.”
She added, “Thank you for your service, your sacrifice, and your unwavering belief in our children.”
“We see you, we hear you, we value you. Thank you, may God bless you, may God bless our schools, may God bless Dominica. Happy World’s Teachers’ Day,” Alfred concluded.
