Dominica’s senior men’s national football team suffered a 5-1 defeat to Guyana on Thursday in their CONCACAF Nations League League B encounter at the Estadio Centroamericano in Mayagüez, Puerto Rico. The result left the Bouyon Boyz facing a difficult position in their group, after Guyana established a two-goal advantage before halftime through Osaze De Rosario and Omari Glasgow.
Guyana continued its dominance after the break, with Deon Moore extending the lead in the 50th minute. Dominica responded in the 75th
minute when Troy Jules found the back of the net, marking the team’s first goal of the current Nations League campaign.
However, Kelsey Benjamin restored Guyana’s four-goal advantage before Enoch George added a fifth in the 90th minute to complete the 5-1 scoreline.
Despite the heavy loss, Dominica captain Marcus Bredas identified the team’s ability to create more opportunities and score its first goal of
the campaign as positives from the encounter.
Bredas acknowledged that the team’s discipline declined after Guyana opened the scoring, telling the media, “After the first goal, you can see the boys, they lack a bit of discipline, and that’s what happened.” He said the team would need to return to training, address its shortcomings and prepare for the next meeting.
Dominica will have an immediate opportunity to respond, with the Bouyon Boyz scheduled to face Guyana again on Sunday, October 4. Bredas stressed the importance of putting Thursday’s result behind them and concentrating on correcting the areas that contributed to the defeat.
“The game has passed, so we have to go back on the training ground, fix what we have to fix, and hopefully come out and be victorious in the next match,” he said.
