Miami/The Cuban artist Juan Miguel Pozo presents IN DEPTHhis first individual exhibition with the El Apartamento gallery, at its Miami headquarters. The inauguration will take place on Saturday, October 3, in an open day between noon and 7:00 pm.
The exhibition is part of a series of individual exhibitions promoted by El Apartamento with the purpose of getting closer to the creative processes and historiographical context of the artists represented by the gallery. In the case of Pozo, this journey leads to a painting in which architecture, memory and the traces left by political systems occupy a central place.
Born in Holguín in 1967, Pozo studied at the Isla de Pinos School of Painting and Drawing and at the San Alejandro Academy in Havana. He later completed his training at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf, under the tutelage of the German painter Konrad Klapheck. After residing for more than two decades in Berlin, the artist settled in Madrid in 2025, the city where he currently lives and maintains his studio.
His pictorial practice contemplates the urban space as a complex cultural organism, crossed by time, ideologies, oblivion and different forms of political control. Buildings, structures and fragments of the city thus appear not only as architectural motifs, but as repositories of experiences and stories. Each painting raises a question about how a society constructs the memory of its own history and what it decides to relegate to oblivion.
IN DEPTH It will remain open during October and November 2026 at the Miami headquarters of El Apartamento.
