Rasmus LyberthJulie Berthelsen and Frederik Elsner, singers and musicians, are among the artists who appear on a new double album which pays tribute to Gasolin 55 years after the band’s debut album.
The album GAS 1 will be released on 21 November and contains new interpretations of the ten songs from Gasolin’s first album as well as six Nordic versions of “Langebro”. Artists from, among others, Greenland, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Iceland and the Faroe Islands contribute to the publication.
– I am incredibly proud to be allowed to interpret ‘Langebro’ in my very own way, says Rasmus Lyberth in a press release.
Gasolin’s music has also been of great importance in Greenland, it says. Frederik Elsner says that the band’s songs were a natural part of his upbringing and were played across generations.
Gasolin never made it to Greenland, but the band was connected to the country in other ways. Franz Beckerlee recorded with Sumé in Copenhagen, among others, while Kim Larsen later came to visit as a soloist.
In 1974, Gasolin also released the song “Kap Farvel til Ümanarssuaq”, which was described by Politiken as a battle song against the white man’s actions in Greenland.
All income from record and ticket sales goes to Kofoed Skole’s music workshop in Amager. The release will be marked with a reception on 21 November and a concert on 24 November in Frederiksberg.
