A crowbar, damaged burglar bars and a wounded man at the hospital are now at the center of an investigation into a suspected break-in that ended in gunfire. Police say Senior Superintendent Christopher Noble caught two men allegedly trying to force their way into a home on Compassion Lane, in Ladyville, after neighbors raised the alarm. When Noble confronted them, investigators say the men fired in his direction, and the senior officer returned fire. Both suspects escaped, leaving behind a crowbar wedged against the bedroom window and a section of burglar bars on the ground. The investigation widened when thirty-year-old Devon Grant later sought treatment for gunshot wounds at the KHMH. Police have not confirmed any connection, but they are working to determine whether Grant was involved in the incident. ACP Hilberto Romero says police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.

“On Sunday around four a.m. police responded to a shooting at Compassion Lane in Ladyville. Upon the arrival they received information from a senior officer in the area who reported he responded to a burglary in progress where he saw two male persons armed with crowbars. He shouted at them to stop. Thereafter, one of the male persons fired shots towards his direction. He then took cover and returned fire. Thereafter, a male person showed up at the KHMH with gunshot injuries. He was identified as Devon Grant of Belize City. We are carrying out an investigation into this report. The scene was processed where several expended shells were found. Grant remains in stable condition at the KHMH. The crowbars were recovered, expanded shells and there are damages on the window and the door.”
The circumstances surrounding Devon Grant’s shooting have drawn comparisons to two previous encounters with police in the Ladyville area. In 2013, officers fatally shot Travis McKay and Ryan Lozano in separate incidents after they were allegedly caught trying to steal property.
