SAN MARINO – The Secretary of State for Justice Stefano Canti participated in the XV United Nations Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice, scheduled in Abu Dhabi from 26 September to 1 October 2026. He was accompanied by the ambassador of San Marino to the United Arab Emirates Elisabetta Bucci and the Embassy counselor Beatrice Simoncini.
The Republic returns to be represented in Congress after several years. At the center of the work are crime prevention, strengthening the rule of law and the new challenges posed by digitalisation. During the visit, Canti also met with the Minister of Justice of the United Arab Emirates, Al Nuaimi, to strengthen bilateral relations.
Speaking in the high-level session, the Secretary of State underlined the importance of international cooperation and the exchange of experiences between countries to address the evolution of crime, with particular attention to economic-financial crimes and new technologies.
Canti also recalled the need to combine effective social prevention policies with law enforcement activities, aimed above all at the protection of vulnerable people, the support of young people and the diffusion of the culture of legality.
During his speech he illustrated San Marino’s progress within Objective 16 of the United Nations 2030 Agenda, focusing on the recent reform of the penitentiary system and the proposals to modify the criminal process.
San Marino also supported the approval of the Abu Dhabi Declaration, which defines the international guidelines for the next five years, until 2031, regarding crime prevention and protection of the rule of law in the digital age.
“It constitutes a global roadmap for the next five years,” declared Canti, highlighting the attention paid to the implications of new technologies in the judicial field, the objectives of the 2030 Agenda and the strengthening of international cooperation.
