During his participation in the joint ministerial meeting of the League of Nations and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation on Jerusalem, held within the framework of the high-level week of the eighty-first session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, Attaf renewed Algeria’s emphasis on the necessity of preserving the existing historical and legal status in Islamic and Christian holy sites, most notably the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque in its entirety, and moving to a coordinated Arab and Islamic movement, within the United Nations and in various international forums, to defend the legal status of Jerusalem and confront attempts to impose a fait accompli and enhance legal protection.
