HARARE, Zimbabwe – West Indies Women’s all-rounder Aaliyah Alleyne believes that once they stick to their game plans, they will be successful in their current ODI series against Zimbabwe Women.
West Indies Women took a 1-0 lead in the three-match series by winning Thursday’s opening ODI by 99 runs at the Harare Sports Club.
The two sides will meet again on Sunday at the same venue, with the visitors knowing that victory will help them clinch the series with a match to spare.
Alleyne starred with the ball in the opener, grabbing 3-44 to help bowl out the home side for 200 in pursuit of the Windies’ total of 299 for six.
Speaking ahead of their crucial encounter, Alleyne said the team knows what they have to do to be successful.
“The conditions were good for batting, and we had discussed beforehand hitting our areas, hitting the deck hard and attacking the stumps.
“I just think that once we stick to that plan and be patient, we will be successful,” Alleyne said.
She maintained that even though the Windies were ranked seventh in the rankings, seven spots ahead of the 14th-ranked Zimbabweans, they would not allow complacency to creep in.
Alleyne pointed to Modester Mupachikwa’s fighting knock of 86 in the first ODI, and said she expected the home side to come out guns blazing.
“We’ve discussed not getting complacent. We know that partnerships are going to be built; the opening batter batted really well in batting right through the innings.
“…So we have to try not to get too flustered. You’re going to get hit for a boundary or two, but we just have to stick to the team plan and enjoy it right through,” Alleyne said.
