Prime Minister John Briceño departed Belize on Wednesday for New York City to attend the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly, where world leaders are gathering to discuss climate change, global health, peace, security, and humanitarian response.
Briceño is expected to return to Belize on Monday. During his absence, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Natural Resources, Petroleum and Mining Cordel Hyde will serve as Acting Prime Minister.
While in New York, Briceño took part in a meeting of Small States leaders focused on strengthening cooperation to address the unique vulnerabilities facing small nations. He shared Belize’s perspective on building resilience among Small States and emphasized the importance of stronger cooperation in responding to shared challenges and advancing sustainable development.
