Police arrested one man and seized a firearm, a magazine and several rounds of ammunition during intelligence-led exercises in the Central, Southern and Eastern Divisions over the past 24 hours.
Between midnight and 4am on Saturday, officers of the Southern Division Task Force conducted an Operation RESOLUTE Shield exercise in the Southern and Central Divisions.
Based on surveillance and intelligence, officers went to an apartment along the Southern Main Road, California, where they conducted a search.
A 34-year-old man was arrested after police allegedly found six rounds of 9mm ammunition and a Smith & Wesson magazine capable of holding 17 rounds.
The operation was coordinated by Snr Supt Hospedales, Supt Bertie, W/Supt Bridgelal, Asp Pacheco, ASP Ramsarran, ASP Chulhan and Inspector Wilkinson, and was supervised by Sgt Singh and Cpl Heeralal.
Earlier, in the Eastern Division, officers of the Cumuto Criminal Investigations Department and Cumuto Charge Room conducted an intelligence-led exercise between 8.30pm on Friday and 1.30am on Saturday.
At about 10.30pm, the team received information which led them to Didier Trace, Cumuto.
Police said they saw a man dressed in dark clothing standing along the north-eastern side of the roadway in a bushy area.
When the man looked in the direction of the patrol unit, he ran northwards and dropped a clear plastic bag containing several objects before fleeing into the bush.
A search of the area led to the discovery of a transparent plastic bag containing three rounds of .32 ammunition and a silver-coloured .32 Special revolver containing two rounds of .32 ammunition.
The search continued towards the eastern side of a school in the direction in which the man had fled, but neither the man nor any further items were found.
Investigations are continuing.
