Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit says plans are advancing for a US$75 million cruise village in the Roseau North constituency, with a formal agreement expected to be signed shortly.
Speaking at a Dominica Labour Party gathering in Yam Piece, Skerrit said the privately funded project would inject substantial foreign capital into Dominica and create additional economic activity for people living and working in the constituency.
He said the development could significantly expand the benefits of cruise tourism by attracting more passengers and increasing demand for local services.
Vendors, taxi operators, tour guides and other tourism-related businesses are expected to benefit as cruise visitors spend more time and money within the local economy.
Prime Minister Skerrit noted that many residents of Roseau North already earn income from the cruise sector and suggested the new facility could widen those opportunities considerably.
The Prime Minister also highlighted the new school being built on the former Goodwill Secondary School site, saying the facility is intended to play a broader role in preparing young people for the labour market.
In addition to accommodating Goodwill Primary School, he said the new institution is expected to become a centre of excellence for technical and vocational education, providing young Dominicans with practical skills aligned with the needs of the country’s growing economy.
