SALALAH: The Royal Omani Amateur Radio Society (ROARS) is organising a 3-day forum in the Governorate of Dhofar. The opening ceremony of the forum was held under the auspices of HH Sayyid Marwan bin Turki al Said, Governor of Dhofar.
Sayyid Mohammed bin Said al Busaidi, Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Royal Omani Amateur Radio Society, delivered a speech in which he stressed the importance of the forum in embodying the vision of ROARS to serve the community. He also spoke about the role of amateur radio operators in supporting the system of communications during exceptional circumstances.
The opening ceremony included a presentation about the origins of the hobby, its stages of development and its role in emergencies. A documentary featuring ROAR’s prominent achievements was screened during the ceremony.
HH Sayyid Marwan toured an exhibition showcasing wireless devices and an interactive gallery for children.
The forum aims to introduce digital communication systems, recording and management programmes and satellite communication mechanisms.
The programme of the second and third days includes training workshops and practical applications on antenna installation and digital station operation. It will also include a presentation of amateur experiences and a review of success stories, as well as training models on setting up and operating field stations and emergency communication, to enhance the readiness of amateurs in different situations. — ONA
