Dr Gaile Gray-Phillip has been appointed Deputy Director of the Global Campus Sites at The University of the West Indies (The UWI) Global Campus, effective August 1, 2026, according to a press release issued by The UWI.
Gray-Phillip previously served as Deputy Director (Ag) from August 1, 2025, to July 31, 2026. Before taking on that role, she was Head of The UWI Global Campus in St Kitts and Nevis.
According to The UWI press release, Gray-Phillip brings extensive experience in higher education, distance education, research, public administration and institutional leadership.
She began her teaching career at Sandy Point High School, now Charles E. Mills Secondary School, teaching Mathematics, Information Technology and Physics. She later spent 21 years at Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College, progressing from Lecturer to Senior Lecturer and eventually Dean of the Division of Arts, Sciences and General Studies.
Her involvement with The UWI’s distance education programmes dates back to 2002 and has included roles as tutor, e-tutor, course coordinator, facilitator, examiner, course reviewer, course developer and research supervisor.
Gray-Phillip also served as Senior Director of the St Kitts and Nevis Central Statistics Office and has published research on alcohol consumption, alcohol policies and marijuana use among adolescents.
She holds a PhD in Education from The UWI Mona Campus, a Master of Research in Educational and Social Research from the University of London and a BSc from The UWI Mona. She currently serves on the CFBC Board of Governors and the St Kitts and Nevis National Council on Drug Abuse Prevention, and is Treasurer of the Mixed-Methods International Research Association for 2025–2027.
“Dr Gray-Phillip has continued to live up to our highest expectations since she formally joined the Campus as Head of Site in the Federation of St Kitts and Nevis in 2019. Of course, she has been a fundamental part of the Campus family for well over two decades (as it evolved and transformed to the Global Campus from the Open Campus and its antecedents). She is therefore exceptionally qualified for this post of Deputy Director,” said Pro Vice-Chancellor and Principal Dr Francis O. Severin.
“Dr Gray-Phillip combines the attributes of an educational administrator and researcher and has always embraced the ideals of what I would call pastoral care in education. She is a genuine teacher,” he added.
The UWI Global Campus Senior Management Team congratulated Gray-Phillip and said it looks forward to her continued contribution to the strategic development of the Global Campus Sites Division.
