The Trinidad and Tobago Prison Service (TTPrS) has intercepted a package containing marijuana and other prohibited items that was thrown over the perimeter wall of the Port-of-Spain Prison.
In a statement, the TTPS said that around 8.10 am on Thursday, officers acted on information that a package had been tossed over the prison’s wall.
A search of the prison’s south-western perimeter led to the discovery of a black plastic bag containing a white gallon bottle.
According to the Prison Service, the bottle contained 230 grammes of plant-like material resembling marijuana, 12 packs of RAW rolling papers, four packs of Bambu rolling papers, and nine cigarette lighters.
Investigations are continuing with the assistance of external law enforcement agencies.
The discovery came just one day after officers at the Maximum Security Prison seized two cellular phones, 348 cigarettes, a hotplate, an extension cord, a makeshift electrical outlet, and wrapping paper during a search of G Division.
The TTPrS said three inmates are expected to be charged in connection with those items.
The Prison Service also warned members of the public that introducing prohibited articles into a prison is a serious offence and will be dealt with according to the law.
