The Commonwealth of Dominica Police Force (CDPF) continued its youth outreach efforts with an interactive visit to Chances emergency shelter and care facility on Tuesday, August 25, 2026.
According to a police statement, members of the Community Oriented Policing Unit visited the children as part of the CDPF’s Community Policing Initiative, leading an educational discussion on making safe and responsible choices.
The session covered the dangers and effects of drug and alcohol use, dealing with peer pressure, saying no to unsafe situations, respecting rules and making responsible decisions. Officers also explained the role of the police in protecting and serving the community.
The CDPF said both the children and their caretakers actively participated in the discussions. At the end of the session, the children shared that they had learned a great deal and asked for similar visits to continue, saying the discussion had helped answer questions they previously had.
The Community Policing Team pledged to continue providing educational sessions aimed at helping young people make positive decisions.
The visit also ended on a lighter note when the children eagerly tried on the officers’ police caps. Several reportedly expressed an interest in becoming police officers in the future.
The key message repeated throughout the session was:
“SAFE CHOICES, SAFER FUTURE!”
The police said the initiative forms part of ongoing efforts to educate, inspire and strengthen relationships with young people in communities across Dominica.
