BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 20. Uzbekistan and
Iran discussed ways to expand transport and transit cooperation,
including the development of international corridors and measures
to increase cargo flows between the two countries.
This was reflected in a statement by Uzbekistan’s MFA, following
a meeting between First Deputy Foreign Minister Bakhromjon Aloev
and Iran’s Minister of Roads and Urban Development Farzaneh Sadegh
in Tehran.
According to the Ministry, in the course of the meeting, the
sides reviewed the current state and prospects of bilateral
cooperation in the transport sectors.
”Particular attention was paid to expanding transport and
transit links, developing international transportation corridors
and improving the efficiency of logistics routes connecting the two
countries,” the Ministry notes.
The sides also discussed measures to create more favorable
conditions for increasing cargo transportation volumes between
Uzbekistan and Iran.
The sides emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation
between relevant government agencies and advancing joint projects
in the transport and logistics sector.
Improved transport connectivity could support bilateral trade by
reducing logistical barriers and increasing the reliability and
efficiency of freight routes.
For Uzbekistan, cooperation with Iran is particularly important
for diversifying access to international markets and strengthening
its links with transport routes leading to the Middle East and
beyond. Iran, meanwhile, offers Uzbekistan access to established
transport infrastructure and maritime routes.
The latest talks are part of ongoing efforts by Tashkent and
Tehran to strengthen economic and transport ties and increase the
role of transit corridors connecting Central Asia with regional and
global markets.
The sides agreed to continue cooperation between relevant
institutions and explore opportunities for implementing joint
transport and logistics projects.
