MUSCAT: Oman has been included in a portfolio of artificial intelligence data-centre assets and development opportunities exceeding 2.2GW assembled by Nasdaq-listed VivoPower, marking the Sultanate’s emergence in the company’s expanding Gulf AI infrastructure strategy.
VivoPower said the portfolio covers projects primarily across Oman, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Malaysia and the Philippines and was assembled through relationships with sovereign entities, governments and strategic partners across the GCC and ASEAN regions.
The company has not disclosed how much of the 2.2GW is allocated to Oman, nor has it identified the location, investment value or counterparties associated with its plans in the Sultanate. It said capacity figures by individual jurisdiction would be disclosed at a later stage.
The distinction is significant because the 2.2GW figure represents VivoPower’s combined portfolio and pipeline across several countries, rather than committed capacity in Oman.
The portfolio also contains projects at different stages of development. VivoPower said these range from ready-to-build assets with power connections and relevant permits to secured powered-land positions, projects covered by memoranda of understanding and prospective sites still under evaluation and negotiation.
The company did not specify which category applies to its Oman interests.
VivoPower plans to transfer the non-Nordic portfolio into a separate AI Infrastructure Platform headquartered in Singapore. The new entity is expected to seek institutional and sovereign capital in a pre-IPO funding round, followed by a planned primary listing on the London Stock Exchange and secondary listing on the Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange.
VivoPower said the structure would shift future construction capital requirements for the non-Nordic portfolio to the independently capitalised platform while allowing the company to retain de facto control through an anchor shareholding, board representation and group governance links.
The company describes its broader data-centre strategy as focusing on securing land and access to power for AI computing infrastructure, reflecting the growing importance of electricity availability as global demand for high-performance computing expands.
Oman’s inclusion adds another potential entrant to the Sultanate’s developing data-centre and AI infrastructure landscape, although VivoPower has yet to disclose sufficient details to establish the scale or development status of its Oman pipeline.
No specific Omani sovereign investor has been identified in connection with the new platform, and the company has not announced a final investment decision for an Oman project.
