The Dominica Amateur Basketball Association’s championship series began with competitive action, as Possie Pacers and Dr. Darroux Falcons each opened their respective finals campaigns with victories.
Possie Pacers defeated West Coast Ballers 88–69, overcoming a tightly contested first half before taking control after the interval.
The opening period ended level at 25–25, while the Pacers held a narrow 49–47 advantage at halftime. A remarkable third-quarter surge
proved decisive, with Possie Pacers producing 28 points while restricting the Ballers to just nine. Tyler Roudette was the Pacers’ leading scorer with 28 points, supported by Troy Brookes with 16, Nigel George with 14 and Hunter McBride with 12. Sherron Vidal scored 19 for West Coast Ballers, while Dean Vidal finished with 15.
Dr. Darroux Falcons also had to withstand a determined challenge to take their opening game, edging 767 SC Dominators 78–75 in the
Premier Division series. The Falcons built an early cushion, leading 22–18 after the first quarter and going into the halftime break 41–31
ahead. The Dominators returned from the interval with renewed intensity, trimming the margin to four points after taking the third quarter 23–17.
They continued to apply pressure in the final period, winning it 21–20, but the Falcons managed the crucial closing minutes effectively to preserve their three-point lead.
Edmond Williams topped the Falcons’ scoring with 16 points, followed by Yawani Regis on 15, Karim Daniel on
14 and Kijuan Thomas on 13. Shamar Felicite produced an outstanding 34-point performance for the Dominators, while Kelsey Guye added 14.
Attention now turns to Game 2 on Thursday, August 20, as both losing teams seek to restore parity in their championship series. West Coast
Ballers will meet Possie Pacers at 7:00 PM, before Dr. Darroux Falcons take on 767 SC Dominators at 9:00 PM.
The Pacers and Falcons will enter the second night hoping to extend their leads, while the Ballers and Dominators will be under pressure to respond and prevent their opponents from moving closer to championship glory.
