The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) is set to host a high-level regional dialogue on August 18–19 focused on finding new ways to finance and increase across Latin America and the Caribbean.
According to an FAO press release, the meeting will take place at the FAO Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean in Santiago, Chile, bringing together more than 70 representatives from 16 countries.
Government officials, financial institutions, development organisations and private-sector representatives will use the two-day event to share experiences and examine financing tools, programmes and strategies that could help strengthen investment in the region’s agrifood systems.
The discussions are also expected to explore ways to develop stronger territorial financial ecosystems, deepen strategic partnerships and establish a task force focused on innovative and inclusive financing.
FAO Assistant Director-General and Regional Representative for Latin America and the Caribbean, René Orellana Halkyer, will open the event with a keynote address examining how investment in agrifood systems can be scaled up.
Among the speakers will be Shaun Baugh, representing the Caribbean Community (CARICOM).
The dialogue is expected to provide an opportunity for regional stakeholders to exchange practical experiences and identify approaches that can support greater access to financing for agrifood development.
