The National Cooperative Credit Union (NCCU) on Tuesday hosted its 2026 Scholarship Ceremony at the Dominica Public Service Union (DPSU) building in Roseau, where 19 secondary school students were formally recognized as this year’s scholarship recipients.
The annual initiative, launched in 2010, has become an important part of the NCCU’s efforts to promote education, support young people, and
contribute to the development of Dominica’s future leaders.
The NCCU has awarded more than 240 scholarships over the past 16 years, demonstrating its continued investment in the country’s youth.
For the 2025/2026 academic year, the credit union allocated $136,348.80 to its scholarship sponsorship programme.
The initiative currently provides support to secondary school students across the island, with assistance extending to both newly enrolled and
continuing scholars.
NCCU officials explained that the scholarship package is designed to help families meet some of the significant costs associated with
secondary education. Recipients can receive up to $700 for textbooks and school supplies, along with a $500 uniform allowance for first-year
students and $300 for continuing students.
Where applicable, students also receive monthly transportation assistance ranging from $50 to $100. The programme further assists eligible students with school fees and examination costs, including Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) and Caribbean Certificate of Secondary Level Competence (CCSLC) fees.
In addition, the NCCU makes textbooks and school supplies from its existing inventory available to students from both member and non-
member families, extending the programme’s reach beyond the official scholarship recipients.
