Trinidad & Tobago (T&T) continued their dominant march through the CWI Rising Stars Under-19 Women’s Championship yesterday, securing a third consecutive victory with a crushing 10-wicket demolition of the Windward Islands at the Liberta Sports Club.
In a display of bowling prowess, T&T skittled the Windwards for a paltry 52 in 19.4 overs. The star of the show was Samara Ramnath, who produced a sensational spell of 4-10, including a hat-trick, as she ripped through the middle order.
Jaeda Tyrell, with 16, and Kaela George, with 12, offered the only notable resistance for the Windwards.
Any hopes of a miraculous defence were quickly extinguished as Ramnath returned with the bat to smash an unbeaten 27. She shared an unbroken opening stand of 53 with Amrita Ramtahal, who finished unbeaten on 18, as T&T raced to their target in just 6.3 overs.
The victory keeps T&T unbeaten at the top of the standings.
Meanwhile, at the Coolidge Cricket Ground, Jamaica bounced back from a mid-innings wobble to secure their second straight win, defeating Guyana by 21 runs in a keenly contested encounter.
Batting first, Jamaica posted 103 all out in 19.4 overs. Sashane Ricketts top-scored with 22, while Shamara Hall, who retired hurt, and Zariah Blair contributed 13 runs each. Danellie Manns was the pick of the Guyanese bowlers with 2-11.
In reply, Guyana’s chase never gained the required momentum despite a decent start. Akeela Stephen fought valiantly with 18, while Sarah Bheir added 12, but the Jamaican attack proved too disciplined.
Neveah Webley led the wicket-taking effort with 3-19 as Guyana were restricted to 82 all out in 17.2 overs.
The day’s other fixture saw Barbados record a resounding 90-run victory over the Leeward Islands at the same venue.
Barbadian opener Eboni Brathwaite was the undisputed star, blasting an unbeaten 135 to propel her side to a mammoth 262-2 from their 20 overs. Zaniyah Bruce remained not out on 20.
Chasing a daunting target, the Leeward Islands managed 116-3 in reply, with Zara Skerritt making an unbeaten 37 and Innka Wilson scoring 28. However, they were always well behind the required run rate. Camia Matthew-Brome took 1-5 for Barbados.
