The Dominica Athletic Association Inc. (DAA Inc.) is celebrating a landmark achievement by Team Dominica at the 2026 World Athletics U20 Championships in Eugene, Oregon, where the island secured its first-ever medal at the competition.
The two-member delegation, coached by Godwin Dorsette, competed from August 4 to 9, delivering performances that have established a
new milestone for Dominican athletics on the international stage.
Addison James made history by capturing the bronze medal in the javelin throw, becoming the first Dominican athlete to earn a World
Athletics U20 medal.
His performance came in a highly competitive field and highlighted the progress of his development in the event. Meanwhile, Kerelle Etienne
represented Dominica in the women’s 100 metres and advanced to the semi-final round, producing a strong performance against a field of elite
young athletes from around the world.
The athletes’ performances followed an intensive period of preparation, including a high-performance training camp in Eugene from July 22 to August 2.
During the camp, Dominican athletes trained alongside teams from Trinidad and Tobago and Barbados as they prepared for the championships. The DAA said the historic results establish a new benchmark for future generations and demonstrate Dominica’s growing presence in international track and field.
The association has congratulated Coach Dorsette, James, and Etienne on their achievements and wished them continued success as they
return to their respective schools.
