Negotiations with the Sultanate of Oman are constructive and positive, and the issue of imposing fees on ships transiting the Strait of Hormuz at this stage, said an Iranian agency quoting the Foreign Ministry.
“The Strait of Hormuz will not be a safe passage as long as the US policy and naval blockade continue, and we agreed with the Sultanate of Oman on a transit map for the Strait of Hormuz and are currently discussing some technical points,” the report said.
Negotiations are focused on establishing a safe shipping lane in the Strait of Hormuz, and the issue of mine removal is between Iran and Oman, as two littoral states of the Strait of Hormuz. The aim is to reach a temporary middle ground until a new system is agreed upon.
Navigation monitoring mechanisms will be put in place in the Strait of Hormuz, and services will be provided. It is natural to charge fees for this, the Iranian ministry said.
The route we are discussing with Oman in the Strait of Hormuz is temporary and will replace the southern and northern routes.
Determining the navigation route in the Strait of Hormuz is a bilateral matter between Iran and the Sultanate of Oman.
