Alix Pantin and Lily Tang were crowned overall champions of the Girls Under-18 Division of the T&T Volleyball Federation Trinbago Beach Volleyball Tour at the Sand Courts in Balmain, Couva, on Sunday (August 9).
This was after the duo won their third tournament on the trot to end the four stops with 600 points each, 80 points clear of the pairs of Alliyah Urquhart and Jenissa Morrison and Samantha Ramjohn and Skyla Trestrail.
On Sunday at Couva, Pantin and Tang topped the five-team round-robin series in the fourth and final leg with a 4-0 record.
The eventual champions beat Kimora Sterling and Destiny Narcis 21-15, 21-17; Ramjohn and Trestrail 21-16, 21-16; Arianna Renaud and Jael Mycoo 21-12, 21-8; and Urquhart and Morrison by default, 21-0, 21-0.
Ramjohn and Trestrail ended in the second spot after winning their three other matches over Renaud and Mycoo (21-16, 21-5); Sterling and Narcia (21-16, 21-17); and Urquhart and Morrison by default (21-0, 21-0).
Urquhart and Morrison had won their first two matches, 21-10 and 21-12 against Sterling and Narcis and 21-10 and 21-10 against Renaud and Mycoo.
And in the other match on the day, Renaud and Mycoo defeated Sterling and Narcis 21-18 and 21-5.
Cedeno, Sparks beaten but claim overall title
In the Boys Under-18 Division, Jeremiah Jankey and Josiah Persaud captured the title in the fourth and final leg, ahead of Josie Cedeno and Darion Sparks due to a superior sets-won-to-sets-loss ratio after both teams ended with identical 3-1 win-loss records.
However, Cedeno and Sparks captured the overall crown with 600 points on the season and dominated the first three stops with a total of 600 points each, 40 more than Jankey and Persad.
Jankey and Persaud beat Josiah West and Mikhail Malavar 21-4, 21-4; Jaden James and Emmanuel Newsum 21-6, 21-6; and Asante-Joe Alexander and Andy Melville 21-12, 21-13 but went under to Josie Cedeno and Darion Sparks 15-21, 21-12, 10-15 as both teams ended with 3-1 win-loss records.
Sparks and Cedeno defaulted their opening match against West and Malavar, 0-21, 0-21, due to their late arrival but rebounded to defeat Alexander and Melville, 21-8, 21-5, followed by James and Newsum, 21-8, 21-16.
James and Newsum ended in the third spot with a 2-2 record after beating Alexander and Melville 12-21, 21-12, and 15-10 and West and Malavar 21-13 and 21-19 in their other two round-robin matches.
In the clash to avoid the cellar spot, Alexander and Melville battled past West and Malavar 21-17 and 21-13, with both teams ending with 1-3 records.
However, Alexander and Melville finished fourth in the standings due to a superior points-won-to-points ratio.
