Georgia is ready to establish diplomatic relations with Nauru and deepen bilateral cooperation following the Pacific island nation’s decision to withdraw its recognition of Abkhazia and South Ossetia, Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze stated.
Kobakhidze described Nauru’s decision as a reaffirmation of respect for international law, adding that it supports Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. He noted that Tbilisi stands ready to expand cooperation with Nauru through the establishment of formal diplomatic relations.
Nauru announced on 21 July that it had revoked its recognition of the Russian-occupied regions of Abkhazia and South Ossetia. The de facto authorities in Sukhumi and Tskhinvali claimed the move resulted from Western pressure, while the Georgian government welcomed the decision as support for the country’s territorial integrity.
