As New Zealand debates this proposal ahead of the general election, the Republic of the Marshall Islands, a micro-state in the Pacific Ocean, has launched its own nationwide universal basic income. Its framework and early implementation experience provide a timely opportunity to explore what a national basic income looks like in practice.
