Dawson aiming for 1st Commonwealth swim medal
Canada’s Oliver Dawson will try for his first career Commonwealth Games medal in the 100m breaststroke (4:04 p.m. ET), where he will contend with legend Adam Ramsay-Peaty of England, who is going for his third gold in the event.
Dawson is a rising young star on the Canadian swim team. He helped Canada to bronze in the 4x100m mixed relay at the 2025 World Aquatics Championships at the age of 17.
He also turned heads at the 2026 Speedo Canadian Swimming Open this past April, when he completed a breaststroke sweep, setting new provincial and national records along the way.
And in May, Dawson set a new Canadian record in the 100m breaststroke – twice – in late May at the AP Race London International. The youngster is set to begin his collegiate career in the NCAA this fall at Indiana University.
Canada’s Sophie Angus is coming up in the women’s 100m breaststroke semifinals.
Angus – who swam to silver medals in the 100 medley relay and mixed medley at Birmingham 2022 – was named one of four captains of this Canadian swimming team in Glasgow.
