Comas: large fire consumes five-story mattress factory

A fire of large proportions destroyed a factory of mattresses located in Commasconsumed the property and generated columns of smoke that could be seen from kilometers away and that affected several districts.

The General Fire Department reported that the incident began around 10:46 am in a five-story building, which prompted the deployment of brigades to the intersection of Héroes del Alto Cenepa avenues, known as Trapiche, and San Felipe.

Previously, the authorities had reported other major incidents in Lima Norte, such as the incident that occurred just the day before at a cosmetics company in the district of Los Olivos, or the incident that according to the police was caused and that destroyed a multi-family building in the Manzanilla 2 urbanization in Cercado de Lima, leaving ten dead.

Risk of spread in the Comas factory in the face of the fire

According to the first reports from the emergency teams, the fire would have originated on the first level of the property located in Commas. The presence of highly flammable materials, such as foams and synthetic textile materials used for the production of rest products, allowed the flames to quickly ascend through the structure of the building, affecting the upper levels.

The Ministry of Health, through an institutional statement, confirmed the immediate mobilization of an ambulance from the Mobile Emergency Care System (SAMU) to the emergency area. Likewise, a second unit remains on alert to guarantee a rapid response, while the jurisdiction’s health facilities are prepared to receive possible injured people.

Agents from the National Police of Peru were also present at the scene to facilitate the control of the incident. The police officers proceeded to restrict vehicular and pedestrian access within the perimeter of the affected area, with the aim of allowing the free movement of emergency vehicles and protecting the safety of citizens.

So far, authorities have not reported fatalities or people with serious injuries as a direct consequence of the emergency. Firefighters and National Police experts will begin the corresponding investigations to determine the causes that caused the fire once the cooling and debris removal work has finished.
