Milne Bay team targets Premier League
A TOTAL of 19 players from Kula Football Club (KFC) in Alotau, Milne Bay, are gearing up for this year’s Premier Soccer League competition in Port Moresby.
Member for Alotau, Ricky Morris, who is also the club’s patron, has pledged financial support for the team’s travel and preparations. The squad is dominated by Alotau Soccer Association talent, with nine players selected, alongside representatives from Garuai, Hagita, Gurney, Suau, Weraura, Samarai/Murua, Esa’ala, and Kiriwina/Goodenough districts.
Community development officer Francis Nkuya described the selection as fair, though noted that 11 Misima players missed trials due to Cyclone Maila.
District administrator Hilary Wilson said the final team was chosen during trial matches, ensuring only the best made the cut.
Kula FC has also received strong backing, including K50,000 from NCD Governor Powes Pakop and continued support from Member for Kiriwina/Goodenough Douglas Tomuriesa. The club is now registered with the Investment Promotion Authority as a franchise, signaling long-term ambitions.
Patron Morris praised the involvement of principal advisor for community development Alfred Kidilon, highlighting the importance of youth sports in creating opportunities.
He urged players to give their best, reminding them they represent the entire province.
The squad will travel to Port Moresby next week to enter training camp, with the head coach confident the team is prepared for the challenge.
