PARAMARIBO – President Jennifer Simons will leave for England on Wednesday for a working visit that focuses on the further development of the Surinamese economy and strengthening international economic cooperation. At the invitation of international financial institutions, the head of state will hold discussions with representatives from the financial and energy sectors about investments and new economic opportunities for Suriname.
The president travels with a small delegation, including Minister Adelien Wijnerman of Finance and Planning. The delegation will return to Suriname on Sunday, July 26.
An important part of the program is a meeting with representatives from Bank of America, one of the largest financial institutions in the world. During these conversations, Suriname’s economic prospects and opportunities for investments will be discussed, among other things. The government sees such contacts as essential for strengthening the country’s economic growth and financial resilience.
In addition, a meeting is planned with the management of Subsea 7, an internationally operating company specialized in offshore engineering and energy services. The discussions will focus on developments within the international energy sector, offshore infrastructure, maritime services and other areas of mutual interest.
According to the government, these discussions are part of a broader strategy to intensify dialogue with internationally recognized industry leaders. This takes advantage of the opportunities created by the growth of the Surinamese offshore sector and the expected economic transformation of the country.
The working visit also offers space for the exchange of knowledge, international experience and best practices in the field of finance, offshore development and sustainable economic growth. The government emphasizes that it is committed to long-term cooperation with international financial institutions and the business community to attract sustainable investments and create new economic prospects for Suriname.
