
Police are appealing to the public for information as investigations continue into the fatal shooting of a 34-year-old man in Morne Georgin, Mahaut, on Thursday night.
According to the Commonwealth of Dominica Police Force (CDPF), officers responded to a report of a suspected homicide at around 8:50 PM.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found the lifeless body of 34-year-old Al Toussaint lying in an alley near his home in Morne Georgin. Police said he appeared to have sustained multiple gunshot wounds. A motorcycle was also found on the ground nearby.
A medical doctor later examined Toussaint at the scene and pronounced him dead.
Police carried out preliminary investigations before the body was removed to a funeral home, where it will remain pending an autopsy.
The CDPF is asking anyone with information that could assist the investigation to contact the Mahaut Police Station at 266-4845, the Criminal Investigations Department at 266-5165, Crime Stoppers at 1-800-8477, or the nearest police station.
In their statement, the police also used the opportunity to urge the public, particularly young people, to avoid resorting to violence, including the use of firearms, to settle disputes.
The CDPF extended condolences to the family and friends of the deceased as investigations into the incident continue.
