The former American ambassador to Kosovo, Jeffrey Hovenier, states that the political stalemate is preventing Kosovo from moving forward with its strategic priorities and is negatively affecting relations with the United States and the European Union.
In an interview with Radio Free Europe, Hovenier insisted that the country urgently needs stable institutions, calling on political parties to find a compromise on the formation of the government and the election of the president. According to him, the suspension of the Strategic Dialogue between Kosovo and the USA is a concrete consequence of the deterioration of relations with Washington.
For Hovenier, if he intends to restore the relationship with the administration of President Donald Trump, Pristina must act more quickly on two key issues: involvement in regional projects of liquefied natural gas, LNG, and the resolution of concerns related to the Serbian community in coordination with the US and the European Union.
“Washington’s attention is not infinite. For this reason, I think it is important to take advantage of the opportunities offered and not to spend too much time thinking or reflecting, but, on the contrary, to try to find common areas of cooperation and progress”, said former US ambassador to Kosovo, Jeffrey Hovenier.
He warned that the American administration expects concrete steps, as he taught the idea that without functional institutions, Kosovo will find it difficult to advance in the European integration process, the dialogue with Serbia, the attraction of investments and the strengthening of partnership with international allies.
