
The National Superintendency of Control of Security Services, Weapons, Ammunition and Explosives for Civil Use (Sucamec) and Siderperú delivered children’s games and steel mini-gyms to the “San Pedro” Safe Neighborhood, located in the district of Chimboteprovince of Santa, in Áncash.

The work is part of the “Fire for Play” project, which transforms confiscated firearms into opportunities for development and peaceful coexistence, through their definitive elimination through melting.

The delivery consisted of three children’s games and two steel mini-gymnasiums changed after the melting of 10,520 firearms seized by the Sucamecand that will benefit more than 49 thousand residents of Chimbote.
The activity was chaired by the superintendent of Sucamec, Rafael Ríos Zavala, who highlighted the impact of this intervention in the recovery of public spaces and in the strengthening of citizen security through prevention.

For her part, the manager of External Communication and Institutional Affairs of SiderperuSamantha Meyer Buendía, highlighted the scope of the initiative.
“Since 2013, we have collected weapons through strategic allies such as Sucamec and the PNP, to melt them down and exchange them for children’s games and mini steel gyms, which allow us to promote peaceful coexistence, physical activity and the well-being of thousands of people”he indicated.

Likewise, the person responsible for the Safe Neighborhood Multisector Strategy, Rafael Gálvez Yaurizaca, highlighted the impact of this intervention in the recovery of public spaces and in strengthening citizen security through prevention.
Finally, as part of the act, the Neighborhood Council responsible for the care and conservation of the new recreational space was sworn in.
