The church of Sant Esteve d’Andorra la Vella hosted the diaconal ordination of the seminarian this Sunday Carlos Steve Rosas Portela, in a celebration presided over by the bishop of Urgell and episcopal co-prince d‘Andorra, Josep-Lluís Serrano. The event brought together many faithful and members of the Christian community of the diocese to accompany roses in one of the most significant moments of his vocational journey. The ecclesiastical precinct was packed to see the ordination. Some of the country’s authorities attended among the public, such as the minister of Justice and Interior, Ester Molné; the consul of Andorra la Vella, Sergi González; or the citizen’s reasoner, Xavier Cañada.
During the ceremony, after the episcopal co-prince delivered the homily, the candidate publicly expressed his desire to live the ministry at the service of the Church. From this moment the ordination rite has properly begun. Carlos Rosas he prostrated himself on the ground while the community chanted the litany of the saints. Next, the bishop Josep-Lluís Serranor he has placed his hands on his head and said the prayer of ordination, by which Rosas has been incorporated into the ministry of the diaconate.
Once ordained as a deacon, he received the vestments of his new ministry: the stole and the dalmatic. Later, the bishop gave him the book of gospels. Finally, the new deacon received the kiss of peace from the bishop and the hug, a gesture that expressed his welcome within the order of deacons. With the laying on of hands and the prayer of ordination, roses he has been incorporated into the ministry of the diaconate, the last step before receiving priestly ordination.
Born in Bogota (Colombia), roses has been part of the seminary of the diocese of Urgell since 2019. In recent years he has developed his pastoral work in the parish of Saint Stephen of Andorra la Vellawhere he has collaborated in parish life, accompanied elderly people and residents of socio-health centers and taught religion classes at the EAndorran school of Ordino.
The ordination is part of the calendar of ordinations planned for this summer by the diocese of Urgellwhich thus strengthens his pastoral service both in the principality as in the rest of the diocesan territory.
