Havana/The theater group El Ciervo Encantado, directed by Nelda Castillo, will present the play Mothers at the Norwegian Embassy, in a special function that will begin with the opening of doors and a projection of photographs about the group’s history. The staging will begin at 8:30 at night.
Released in 2024, Mothers It is part of the most recent stage of one of the most relevant companies of contemporary Cuban theater. The work addresses, from the characteristic performative and visual language of El Ciervo Encantado, the links between motherhood, memory, loss and violence, recurring themes in the artistic research headed by Castillo. The piece has been surrounded by controversies due to the obstacles imposed on its exhibition within the Cuban institutional circuit.
Founded in 1996, El Ciervo Encantado has distinguished itself for an experimental theater that combines acting, performance, visual arts and reflection on Cuban identity. In February of this year, the group announced its definitive separation from the Ministry of Culture and the state performing arts system to continue its work independently.
Admission is free, but capacity is very limited. The organizers request that you confirm attendance in advance by writing to emb.havana@mfa.no and indicating the names and surnames of the attendees.
