
The Mayor of Herat Maulvi Hamdullah Nomani said that accountability to the people is one of the basic principles of the Islamic system.
According to him, the collected revenue will be spent in a transparent and balanced way for the development and construction of Herat city.
At the same time, Maulvi Abdul Wahid Khairkhah, the head of urban governance of Herat Municipality, said that the important achievements of the first quarter were the dissemination of the messages of the Holy Prophet, the implementation of 90 percent of the standard gasar ban, the creation of training seminars for the gasar lawyers, the creation of four joint committees of “Municipality-School” and the monitoring of the road addressing project.
Also, Engineer Mohammad Ayub Saifal Jihad, technical and professional head of Herat Municipality, said that 27 projects out of 80 development projects have been started, 25 projects are in the procurement phase and 18 other projects are in the phase of preparing survey and technical documents.
According to him, the construction of underground roads and commercial markets, administrative and commercial buildings, retaining walls, lighting of roads, asphalting and concreting of roads, construction of canals, detailed plans of two new districts, development of green areas, cleanliness of the city, marking of roads, painting of boulevards, beautification of the city, ensuring urban order and price control are among the important programs of this year.
At the same time, Qari Attaullah Ahmadi, head of revenue and accounting of Herat Municipality, said that in the first quarter of this year, the total revenue of the municipality has reached 398 million Afghanis.
According to him, these revenues are collected from cleaning tax, government, residential and commercial property tax, planning map tax, bill and advertisement tax, city services, trade license tax, customs revenue, traffic tax, municipal property rent and other legal sources.
He added that in the first three months of the current financial year, the total normal and development expenses of the municipality were 86 million Afghanis.
