
Rio de Janeiro/This Monday, Brazil began shipping 48 tons of powdered milk to Cuba, as part of a humanitarian operation aimed at alleviating the serious shortage that the island is experiencing after the oil blockade imposed by the United States.
The first 16 tons were sent this afternoon from the Canoas Air Base, in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, and a second flight will depart on Tuesday from Porto Alegre with the remaining 32 tons.
According to a statement released by the Presidency, both loads will arrive on Wednesday, July 15 to the Island.
The Brazilian Government evaluates new donations of food and medicine in the coming months
The action, coordinated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, complements the shipment of medicines and 170,000 tons of rice, 150 tons of black beans and 500 tons of powdered milk, announced on March 19 and channeled through the World Food Program (WFP).
According to the Presidency, the Brazilian Government is evaluating new donations of food and medicine in the coming months.
In 2025, Brazil had already made a humanitarian donation to Cuba in response to the impacts of Hurricane Melissa, whose effects are still being felt in the eastern region of the country.
