During the period from 6 to 10 July, the Director General of National Security, Ali Baddaoui, participated in the Fifth United Nations Summit of Chiefs of Police, held in New York, United States of America, at the head of a delegation that included the Chief of Staff of the National Gendarmerie, Major General Rafik Bouakaz, and senior officials from National Security, in the context of strengthening international police cooperation in confronting transnational security challenges, according to what was reported by the General Directorate of National Security.
The Director General of National Security delivered a speech during the opening session, in the presence of Algeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ammar Benjamea, in which he stressed Algeria’s commitment to strengthening international security cooperation to confront regional and international security challenges, pointing to Algeria’s efforts to strengthen the capabilities of African police agencies, through the embodiment of many training programs, in the areas of combating organized crime of all kinds, such as cybercrime and illicit drug trafficking, in addition to forensic sciences and crisis management. On the sidelines of the summit, the Director-General of National Security also held bilateral meetings with the Belgian Minister of Security and Interior, the United Nations Police Adviser, the Head of the Selection and Employment Section of the Police Division (ONU), as well as the United Nations Assistant Secretary-General for Peace Operations, and the heads of the police delegations of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Azerbaijan and Chad, during which ways were discussed to enhance coordination and cooperation in the areas of training and capacity building, and the development of police competencies, as well as supporting the participation of members of the Algerian police and the National Gendarmerie.
